Young trans women of color are among the highest at-risk groups for HIV infection. Facing cultural stigmas and homelessness and without enough positive role models, too many of these young women enter the sex industry or other destructive environments because they see no other options. In collaboration with Howard Brown’s Broadway Youth Center, we created accessible print materials to inform at-risk women about TWISTA, a ground-breaking, national program for women like them. In order to build trust and ensure their safety, it was critical that these young women could see themselves represented among the program’s leadership. With art direction from our creative team, the booklets showcased the program’s directors - all young trans women of color - in a high-end fashion shoot, complete with hair, makeup, styling and studio setup.
